Voices of Haiti in Italy. Testimony of Laura Biancalani

There are life and work experiences that touch and deeply change you.

This new adventure after so many months of work with Voices of Haiti is one of them.

Combine such different people, experiences, cultures …60 children coming from every area of PAP, 20 Haitian adults, the doctor, the cook, the school directors, the teachers, professionals from the world of entertainment, volunteers.

The kids, Andrea and Veronica, have helped us in creating around them not just a perfect organization, but a family, where each one has taken care of the other.

The only purpose of our work together was to give emotions, show the world the positive qualities of Haiti and the desire to make and grow everyone in our own talent.

Virginia’s hen at the hostel, children’s hugs every morning, the bright eyes of the adults lit by the lasers on stage at Lajatico, Emeline’s sweet words from the stage, Elisabetta and Andrea hikers on the hills with gifts for the children. The light in the look of Xavier telling us the strength of his dream when he was a child, the sweet look of Pope Francesco smiling at us like a father, Andrea and Veronica happy and excited, the last night on the beach, like those who have finally succeeded in uniting their own great Family creating a greater and greater circle of love that from Italy will reach Haiti and viceversa…

In Voices of Haiti there is the professionalism of many people, first of all of Maestro Malcolm, but beside the professionalism, there is compassion, the desire of staying together and of working together in order to reach the goal together. This has cancelled the differences, and has put all of us at the same table by removing, or rather, enhancing the differences and characteristics of each of us.

Eventually the singing of the Voices of Haiti has excited us, has spoken of their land in their place, but more than all, it has made us feel strong together, and this is a teaching that will remain inside all of us all for the rest of our life.

This is the power, the only one of art and artists. See and dream with the eyes of a child, pushing through them, everyone else into the realization of small miracles that can change the life of those whom you can touch through art.

Humility, listening, sharing, family, talent, these are the words that make this project unique.

Laura Biancalani
